Dear Friends

London Personally's last walk is down south ( for most of us). Brixton might once have been a part of London that many would have avoided. Not any more.  It is one of the great cultural centres of London. The buzz hits you as you spill out of Brixton tube. The noise, the crowds and the variety of Londoners that you can see in SW9 and SW2, the postal districts for Brixton, reflect the regeneration of one of London's most neglected areas.

So we will be talking pop stars, graffiti art and the history of one of London's great music venues. There's the market of course, the riots  and the Windrush story.

And if the weather holds up, a lovely park , a windmill and David Bowie.  Details are as follows:

MEETING TIME ;     12-45  Sunday 9th December 2018

MEETING POINT :   The Ground floor bar at The Ritzy Cinema  Brixton Oval  Cold Harbour Lane London SW2 1JG.

Directions from Brixton Station (Victoria Line).  Turn left as you come out the station. At the lights at the end of the parade of shops cross over to the wide open concrete "green" in front of you. You will see the Ritzy on the left. A 3 minute walk from the Station.

WALK LENGTH:    It could be 3.5 miles if the weather is good as we will add a circuit via Brockley Park and the Windmill. If the weather is poor the walk will be shortened to nearer 1.5miles and we will spend more time in and around the market and the centre of Brixton. The walk will take somewhere between 2 and 3 hours .

WALK ENDS :     At Brixton Station  no later than 4-00pm.

FACILITIES:     Pretty much everywhere. There are restaurants/pubs/ bars throughout the route.

COST:                £10 per person. Pay on the day

MAKE THE MOST OF BRIXTON:  If you want to drive you must really hate the tube. If you do drive think about parking in streets off Acre Road . Give yourself plenty of time.  Watch for parking restrictions though.

If you want to eat you will be spoilt for choice. In the market you can eat from almost every national cuisine.  Many of the restaurants are moderately priced and Davida and I may well  find somewhere to eat after the walk.

RESERVATION:  Just drop me an e mail ahead of the walk. Numbers will be limited  as Brixton is busy.

AND REMEMBER:   Bring some nosh / water/

Looking forward to seeing you on the 9th.

Best Wishes

Stan
